Learning Through Exploration: 10 Scavenger Hunts to Try

Scavenger hunts can be a quick, low-prep activity for your child that will not only exercise their mind, but also exercise their body. Below I offer 10 different scavenger hunts that will challenge your child in a variety of academic fields. Go to my printable documents page for printer-friendly documents that you can use for a checklist. To create a unique experience for your child, try collecting scavenger hunt items in bags, egg cartons, boxes, or baskets. For added fun, label and/or draw on your collecting bag with what you are trying to find. You could also print the checklists and use a clipboard and a "teacher pen" to check the items off. To challenge your child, try setting a timer. There are several ways you can expand on scavenger hunts to create a more enriching experience.

Nature Scavenger Hunt: Enjoy the great outdoors and search for items right in your backyard.

Sensory Walk: For another outdoor adventure, use your senses to find items that are slimy, rough, and so much more. This is a great opportunity to practice descriptive language.

Rainbow Scavenger Hunt: Search for red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and pink items. This can be done both inside and outside.

Shape Hunt: Test your geometry knowledge by searching for different shapes around the house or outdoors.

Alphabet Search: Go through the alphabet and find items that start with "A," "B," "C," and so on.

Gratitude Scavenger Hunt: Practice gratitude with a gratitude scavenger hunt. You'll end this adventure with a smile on your face and a full heart.

Cleanup Scavenger Hunt: Need a helpful scavenger hunt? Try challenging your child to find things around the house that need cleaned and organized.

5 Senses Scavenger Hunt: Use your five senses to find items you can see, smell, hear, taste, and touch.

Count to 10 Hunt: Search for a variety of items while practicing number sense.

Road Trip Scavenger Hunt: If you'll be getting in the car anytime soon, this one is for you. Your little one can look out the window to find these items as you head down the road.

Be sure to go to my printable documents page to print your checklists and enjoy the challenges!

Happy searching,

Ms. E Warner
